This the first of a number of development sketches for the character of George. George is the mascot for a series of self help legal books. He went by a number of different names before they decided on that George. The client was looking for a character that seemed friendly, trustworthy and knowledgeable. It took us a while before we got a design that worked for everybody.

I like the wan-looking fellow on the bottom. He looks like he spends a lot of time reading tomes in the law library.
In contrast, the guy above looks like a former drill sargeant.

The client did eventually go with a version of George that had a slim figure. There was a lot of back and forth between nerdy and more macho types. You’ll see that in upcoming posts.
