Here we have George trying on different looks. The client liked his shoes (eventually) but wasn’t so keen on his turtleneck and black pants.

We spent a lot of time, especially in the finalizing stages, adjusting George’s expression so he displaced just the right amount of cheerful, comforting friendliness.
Hah. I try to avoid picking apart people’s grammar, but this is just too tempting: he displaced cheerful, comforting friendliness? What did he replace it with – brooding, sullen resentment?
