Skook WIP #35

You’re back! Seven days have passed and you have opened another missive. Huzzah!

These Days …

Lots of overtime at USPS this last week. Bleah. More time handling mail (mostly Amazon parcels) means less time having a life and therefore less time to write about having less time to have a life. You’re probably getting used to, and perhaps tired of, this complaint.

Moving on …

Transmission 03

Wilhelmina Grace almost laughed. The transmitter had found her a safe location. She stood on solid ground. It appeared to be the only solid ground for thousands, if not millions, of miles. It seemed to hold a much stronger force of gravity than she would have expected in so small an object. Nonelheless she stayed still. She didn’t want to make any sudden moves that might launch her into the void.

At first she took the glowing objects that drifted past as comets but then she heard faint music. Music, coming from glowing objects, in airless space? Wilhelmina checked her thoughts. This destination only appeared to be airless space. This was not her home dimension. There could be an atmosphere outside her suit. The music from the not-comets was atonal, staticky and vaguely electronic. She thought it sounded like Chinese opera as played on a Theramin.

Super Portraits

I’ve done team up shots of my “Weird Heroes”. I’ve done solo images. I figured it was time to do portraits of each character. My standard work flow is to start by sketching with nonphoto blue pencil.

There are five “Weird Heroes”. I hate leaving empty space so I drew a cat.

Once I was basically satisfied with the blueline sketches I went over them a “B” lead pencil. Once I’ve scanned in these drawings I will drop out the blue using a function in Photoshop. I’ve made process gifs of each portrait and I’ll be sharing those in my next few newsletters.

I went ahead and inked the cat.

The final version of this critter is available on schtuff in my Redbubble store. If you’d like to see it on Zazzle merch just let me know.

Once again, thank you for opening this email. Life is full of distractions. I’m honored that you let me be one of them.

I hope you are well and sane. Remember to get some exercise. See you in seven days!
