The Fremont Sunday Market is now located under the Fremont Bridge. Last week was the first time this year and our first time attending. It’s a relief. The week before in the previous location on 34th Street, I’d had to set up our shop under an open sky with rain coming down. It wasn’t fun. The rain went away by the time the Market opened so we did have customers but I was having a hard time imagining doing business if the rain had continued. The current location will keep sellers and customers dry. Hallelujah!

Each week we try to add new art or a new zine to the store. Just before Halloween I took this image –

and expanded it to poster size –

This week we’re adding copies of Once …

It’s a story Sarah wrote years ago and we passed it out as a Christmas gift. That version had a simple cover –

I’ve been enjoying the process of making and printing zines and comics and am trying to make each one a great presentation so I worked up a new wraparound cover for the story –

We’re planning to market at the Market until at least the end of the year. It’s been a good learning experience if not, so far, a financially enriching one. Each week we try a different way to present the art and we bring something new. We’re limited in how we present things by what we can fit in the car. I’ve seen some booths whose presentation is great that have a multitude of walls and tables. Those folks bring in their booths in a van. We’ve got a sedan. We have to roll down the window so the canopy package fits on the back seat. About six inches sticks out. Nothing like driving to the market in the rain with an open window.

We are having fun. It’s great to get outside and interact with people. Everyone who actually stops at the booth likes what they see. We get paid in compliments if not in cash. That means a lot.

Next year we plan to attend some local zine shows and, hopefully, get stuff in local stores. The trick, as always, is carving out time and energy after delivering mail and fighting off entropy at the house. And, y’know, making art and writing stories.

I hope things are looking good for y’all as the holidays lumber towards us. Stay warm, cuddle your cats and … go hang out with friends! They miss you!
