Storyboard 1

I haven’t done much storyboard work. During the Labor of Love Design Studio years I storyboarded two commercials on my own and did touch up work on a third. These two panels are from, probably, 1998. They were for a commercial about Comcast cable for a company somewhere on the East Coast. I’ll only be showing a few of the panels. Not because I don’t want to bore you (when has that stopped me before) but because I’m not sure where the rest of the storyboard is. I only found part of it when I was going through my flat files. I’ll be posting more panels tomorrow and Wednesday.

If You Build It …

This sketch is probably from 1998 when Labor of Love was publishing GLYPH, the free tabloid. We were trying to think of ads for our design studio to print in the paper. This one had something to do with LoL helping you connect your castle in the sky dreams with the real world and success! The idea never made to a final ad but I do like this illustration.

How Many Mistakes Can You Find?

This illustration is from an environmental education project that Labor of Love put together in 1999 for a major mining company. I have no idea how much of the project was actually implemented. The budget we were given to work with was pretty darned small. We did a series of posters and handouts designed to educate and remind employees of safe practices in handling hazardous wastes. I think this illustration was part of a test packet. Testees were to circle all the negligent practices or trouble spots they could find.

Sarah Byam Toon

The last of the Labor of Love cartoon portraits from 1999 at least until I run across the original drawings somewhere. (I did do portraits of other members but those weren’t on the zip disks I was archiving when I found these pieces.) It’s the founder of Labor of Love, Ms. Sarah Byam.

Kip Manley Toon

Another cartoon version of a former Labor of Love Cooperative member. This is Kip Manley. At the time (1999) he was also one of the principal staff members of the Portland monthly arts magazine Anodyne.
