Sentient 39

While none of these sketches represent any specific character I’m pretty sure they are representative of characters from my Sentient 39 universe. Not that that really explains much if you don’t live in my head. Which hopefully you don’t. It leaks and no one has vacuumed the carpets since I was born.

All Tangled Up

The portrait at the top of the page is a burrabb. By now you might recognize the creatures.

I don’t know (or don’t remember) what’s happening to the poor fellow below the burrabb. He doesn’t look like he’s having a good time.

Dig Them Horns

This page got posted primarily because of the guy with the horns. I like the way they turned out. As far as I can remember none of these characters have any histories.

See You Later

In 2004 one of the major clients at the Day Job shut down most of the division we were supporting. My boss asked me to do an illustration for a sympathy/good-luck-in-your-next-job card that we could send to the departing employees. This was that illustration. I don’t remember if we actually sent out a card but, if we did, we certainly didn’t use this illustration.

Basket Case

The fellow in the lower left, all head and arms but lacking a torso, is based on Belial of the Basket Case series of films. At one time I was interested in adapting and expanding the story for a comic series. Of course, being interested in something and being committed to something are two different things.

Lazy Sunday

The plan today is to have a lazy Sunday. Nizzibet and I are going to see a 10 am show of Prince Caspian this morning. This afternoon I hope to work on some art. Then tonight is our regular dinner and video night with Derek. Our local video store has been selling off its VHS tapes for a dollar so I picked up a stack of older (1950s & 60s) horror movies. I might subject him to one of those.

No stories behind any of the characters sketched today.

New Sketchbook 2004-2007

And now we return to the sketchbooks. This one got started sometime in 2004 and apparently only worked in sporadically. The last few pages have dates of 2007. We’ll get to those eventually.

This page is primarily random sketches. Abbie Guerrecash from Misspent Youths is at the top of the page but, except for the version of Popeye at the bottom of the page, the rest of the figures are one-offs.
