New Old Sketchbook 1996

And now it’s time to review another sketchbook. This one is from (maybe late 1995 and) 1996. Nizzibet and I were living with room mates in a funky old house in Ballard. We’d set up an office in the basement and were working on getting together material and financing for the first magazine version of Glyph.

And there are quite a few sketches of naked folks in the mix of this one. So if having drawings of naked folks appear on your computer screen is problematic you might want to be careful about visiting this blog for the next couple of months.

These particular naked people are not part of any project. Just practice nakedness.

Meet Mister Zero

Also known as The Blank, Mr. Nobody, Mr. Kleen, and probably a few other names I don’t remember. He’s a villainous sort that’s been kicking around my imagination for at least two and a half decades. He was probably inspired by me seeing a drawing of The Question but, honestly, I don’t recall where the character came from.

Who Knows What Evil Lurks?

Once I’d done Doc Savage as a priest the next obvious character to mess with is The Shadow. Most of what I know of the Shadow comes from the 1994 movie and the late 80’s DC comic. As such, I suspect that most of what I know about the character is wrong. Anyway, this sketch is the result of asking the question “What if the Shadow had gotten his mystical training in Egypt instead of Asia?”

The other two characters on the page are Fah Lo Suee and Fu Manchu. Just ’cause.
