These two characters should have a longer entry but at I’m having a fairly hard time getting going this morning. These are early sketches for a couple of fictional contributors to the Black Seal. The man is a nerdier version of Grant Emerson, a Delta Green friendly. The final, more rugged, version appeared in issue #2. The woman was to be a research librarian who would contribute various articles on world history and mythology with a Cthulhu Mythos slant. She has yet to be used in print. Her resemblance to Velma is no coincidence.

Wilbur Bromley
These are the base pencils for an illustration for The Black Seal #2. The character portrayed is Wilbur Bromley, an avatar of Y’Golonac.
Arrival
Another base sketch for an illustration for The Black Seal. The final illustration can be found here.
Look Up
These are the base pencils for an illustration that was done for The Black Seal #2. The final version of the illustration can be found here.
Black Sealers (Sealists?)
Once I’d done the portrait of JT there were a couple other of my fellows at The Black Seal who needed to have their portraits done as well. The gentlemen with the ruptured face is Bob Corcoran. Bob designed the seal for the Black Seal. The gentleman wrangling little tcho-tchos is Giles Hill. Giles is in the mids of serializing his Mythos novel on the other side of that link.
JT and the Natives
This is the base drawing for a portrait of Mr. Jon Turner, the man who originally got me doing illustrations for The Black Seal. I didn’t get any reference photos of him when I did contributors’ portraits back in 2004 so he missed out on being featured on the website. A little over two years later I finally got the photos I needed and did a portrait. I’ve no idea if it will ever see print.
Yellow Sign
I did an illustration of the King in Yellow as a t-shirt for The Black Seal. And what’s the King without the Yellow Sign? The thing is, the Yellow Sign as commonly seen was designed by Kevin Ross for Chaosium and is copyrighted. So I designed a new sign. These six drawings here are the choices I sent my editor.
Last of the NPCs
This is the last of the NPC illustrations scheduled for the next issue of The Black Seal. Not a character you’d want to run into even in a well lit alley.
More NPCs
More NPCs who will not see the light of day until the next issue of The Black Seal sees print. Oh woe. Oh tragedy.
Feeling guilty yet Adam?
NPCs
NPCs are Non Player Characters in RPG (Role Playing Game) vernacular. These guys were done for an issue of The Black Seal that isn’t out yet. Adam went and became a father and got another editor position and became a complete slacker.
(I kid Adam. We won’t go into the projects I’ve been in the middle of for years (and years) now myself.)
These are recent scans from my sketchbook. The final illustrations have been photoshopped a bit. You’ll have to wait until The Black Seal comes out to see what the results look like.
