Early Max

Hey, it’s a series of early designs for Miracle Max! No, not the dog. No, not Billy Crystal. The other one.

Meet Mister Zero

Also known as The Blank, Mr. Nobody, Mr. Kleen, and probably a few other names I don’t remember. He’s a villainous sort that’s been kicking around my imagination for at least two and a half decades. He was probably inspired by me seeing a drawing of The Question but, honestly, I don’t recall where the character came from.
Who Knows What Evil Lurks?

Once I’d done Doc Savage as a priest the next obvious character to mess with is The Shadow. Most of what I know of the Shadow comes from the 1994 movie and the late 80’s DC comic. As such, I suspect that most of what I know about the character is wrong. Anyway, this sketch is the result of asking the question “What if the Shadow had gotten his mystical training in Egypt instead of Asia?”
The other two characters on the page are Fah Lo Suee and Fu Manchu. Just ’cause.
Father Wilde Will Save Us

Story ideas are every where. Most “new” ideas are found by simply looking at an older story through a new lens. This sketch is the result of looking at Doc Savage and wondering what kind of man Clark would have been if he’d taken up religion rather than science.
That Can’t Be Comfortable

The creature at the top of the image is an example of what one invents when one asks oneself questions like: What if Ghidorah had been a giant insect instead of a dragon? (The answer to: What if Godzilla were a giant clam instead of a dinosaur? hasn’t made it to paper yet.)
The guy with the painful condition on the bottom of the image is from Slime God Summer – another story that’s never gotten farther than the sketching stage.
