This is one of my favorite sketches. I have no idea what this thing is. I don’t really care. I sat down to draw something weird and unexpected and this is what showed up. It’s always a pleasure when I’m able to draw something that surprises me.
Toonin’
Early Ghoul

Hey! It’s a ghoul, circa 1999. Here in 2008 I’ve been drawing ghouls from what seems like months now. I’m currently putting the finishing touches on the cover illustration for the Ghoul Manual. Then it’s a race to get the rest of the interior illustrations done before my editor starts getting cranky.
And the Winner for “Best Movie About People Trapped in a Supermarket by Monsters Released Since 2007” is …

Alien Raiders. The title is so generic that I kept for having to be reminded of what it was whenever I talked about the movie. The budget is probably much, much less than a quarter of The Mist‘s. The script … kick-ass.
Is it Perfect? Of course not. But when it comes out on DVD, sometime at the end of the year, it’s worth seeking out. Assuming you like monster movies of course.
Also worth watching is AM 1200. Lord knows when that might be available for a general audience.
Unfortunately those are the only two films I saw at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival that I can recommend. There may have been some other great films but, due to hideous traffic on the way down and scheduling issues at the Festival, I didn’t see that many movies.
Better luck next year.
Away for the Weekend

I’ll be off at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival this weekend. The weekend starts tomorrow. No posts until Monday. Cheers!
Sssshhh.
Michael Browne

The only specific character on this page is Michael Browne. Michael is the older brother of Sallee Browne, who cameoed in Misspent Youths #1. He’s the guy with the flip curl and otherwise buzzed hair. Yes, he and his sister are intended to be older versions of that famous comic strip brother and sister. I’d intended to introduce Michael (and reintroduce Sallee) during the second MY story arc when Moe and Detritus moved to a small town and attended high school.
Some of the Gang
Potpurri

Out in the “real” world the sun is shining on Seattle. Nizzibet and I are housesitting at a friend’s “mansion” (4000 square feet) and that involves regular commutes between there and home to make sure that our cat is fed. Tomorrow is our last day there. We’ve been there now for a little over a week. We’re mostly there to make sure that their cats are fed and have company. The cats are sphinxes, “hairless”, and they’re very affectionate. The male thinks that the best place in the world to hang out is on one’s shoulders. That makes doing artwork somewhat difficult.
Sturge

Meet Leonard “Sturge” Sturgetich, lead singer of the Homesick Abortions. He and his band are exhibit A of why I’d never be able to pick up Misspent Youths where I left off. The me that came up with that band name is so not the me that’s writing this post. I can find him again when I need to but he’s no longer playing to the spotlight.
