Portraits of the Patchwork Girl and Princess Ozma. As with the Scarecrow image these are not the Oz Squad versions of the characters.
Monkey Rasperry
I was drawing a chimp. Chimpanzees are actually apes not monkeys. But “chimp” isn’t as funny a word as “monkey”. Neither is “ape”. So apes are going to have to live with being called monkeys until they get it together, organize, rise up and crush their human overlords.
Blockhead and Buster
The top character is primarily an exercise in shading.
The bottom character is a version of the Scarecrow. Not Steve Ahlquist‘s Oz Squad version. This was done prior to reconnecting with Steve. This version gave himself a name (“Buster”) and plays saxophone with a blues band in America.

The kid with the earring is one of the flying boys from Bonecage Graffiti in the magazine version of Glyph.
The other fellow was just fun to draw.

Meet the Zazkwotch
And now we begin a new (old) sketchbook. As near as I can figure this book dates from the fall of 1998 to sometime in 1999.
This is a portrait of a sasquatch, specifically of the protagonist for Zazquotch. Zazquotch was a silent comic that ran in the GLYPH newspaper tabloid.
Sidetracked by George
I’ve got a commission to do another illustration of George. Good pay, paid quickly. So there will be a delay in sketchbook posting.
Between Sketchbooks
We’re between sketchbooks at the moment. If all goes well I’ll be posting new images tomorrow. If you can’t wait until then, go buy a copy of Basic Roleplaying. It’s my most extensive illustration job in years.
Flip and Impy
Little Nemo in Slumberland is one of the classic comic strips. It features some of the most amazing art ever published. Read on a weekly basis it was probably mind blowing. Read in a collected edition it can get a little dull. All kinds of amazing stuff happens to Nemo and his friends but it just happens. Most of the time it could be happening to anyone. Nemo is never really the agent of any of the action.
Two characters who do tend to stir things up are Flip (on the left) and Impy (on the right). Both characters are basically escapees from minstrel shows. In the original Impy is your basic racist caricature.
Little Nemo is the public domain. Has been for years. It often seems odd to me that no one has picked it up and continued it.
