I have birthmark at the base of my thumb. I tend to forget it’s there unless I’m looking at the hand. Obviously I wasn’t looking at my hand when I was doing the coloring here.

Finnegan – Color
This is Tom Finnegan, the protagonist of Finnegan’s Brink. Finnegan is a graphic novel that Nizzibet and I worked on back in the early ’90s. The publisher who commissioned it shut down before we finished it and the art went into a box. One of our long term plans is to finish the story and get it in to print.

I love Photoshop. I can spend hours testing out different effects, none of which actually improve the illustration. That’s why I try to do most of the heavy lifting for an illustration on paper before I scan it in to the computer. It’s still too easy for me to waste time noodling with filters.
