Happy Fourth of July everyone.

This one went to Karyn O’Hearn. Karyn is currently in the middle of nowhere leading hiking tours. And if that’s not an accurate description she won’t be contradicting me because she has not internet access. Might not even have electricity.

This was actually the first illustration I penciled in the postcard series. For whatever reason it didn’t get inked for quite a while.

This card went to the former Amy Gibson. Amy and I went to high school together. We happened to log on to Classmates.com on the same day a couple of months ago. Always nice to know that friends are still out there in the world, even if you’re not in a position to drop in for tea.

This one went to Staci Smith. Staci lives in Mississippi. Instead of dead possums on the road they have dead armadillos. They might have dead possums too but it was the dead armadillos that I noticed.

By the time I’d started coloring this one I’d done enough “normal” color work that giving him green hair seemed like a good idea. The rest of my color choices bounced off of that.

I sent this fellow to Big Sister.

Often times, adding color to an illustration just makes it different. Not better or worse, just different. The mood changes or the emphasis in the illustration alters. This illustration is one that I think the color really improves. I wasn’t so happy about the black and white original but I really like how the color version turned out.
