Another Friday. Another newsletter. Thank you for reading!
These Days …
If you live in West Seattle and you want to work for the Post Office but would rather not carry mail, we could use some more sorting clerks. Our current clerks are working like crazy but there are less of them than needed to get the packages (and magazines and catalogs and missorted letters and other schtuff) scanned and distributed to the carriers in a timely manner. Some of us carriers (and some of the supervisors) have been pitching in. It can be fun. It’s a break from routine and there’s a nice team spirit to the process but it’s not efficient and it really won’t work if we’re still short clerks when the Holiday season arrives.
I’m guessing other stations in the Seattle area (and probably the whole damned country) need help as well so feel free to apply wherevery you live.
Next week I have my first cataract surgery. I’ll be off work all week. I’m not supposed to lift anything during that time. I’ll have to see what other restrictions are called for. I’ve been putting off reading up on the recovery process because thinking about someone doing things to my eyes gives me the willies. I’ve heard good things about the results from some folks who have had the surgery so I’m not worried about it. Because I will need to restrict my activities for a week I’m trying to get as much of my physical chores taken care of this weekend.
A big one of those chores will be helping our housemate move to a new apartment. She got some stuff moved on Monday. We should be able to get the rest taken care of today. Then we’ll be doing some rearranging of our stuff and looking for a new housemate.
Mugshots
I’m counting the next design as one even though it’s got three versions.
As usual the mugs are available in my Zazzle store.
The design is available on other schtuff in my Redbubble store.
New Go at a Logo
Part of the fun of running a print on demand shop is that I can make and offer designs for a very small audience. Back in the early Nineties I did Misspent Youths – a black and white comic distributed through comic stores. It was a continuation and expansion of a minicomic I’d done eight issues of in 1989/90. I vaguely planned the comic as a thirty issue limited series. Five issues saw print before the publisher and I called it quits. Moe and Detritus and Buffy and Lili and the Pile and all the other characters still live in my head. Occasionally I’ve toyed with the idea of rebooting the series. For a long time I didn’t think I could do it because I was no longer the guy that created the series in the first place. Recently I’ve thought I might actually have fun doing a new version BECAUSE I’m no longer the guy who did those early crude comics. I have a different perspective and enough distance to see the joy in those inkpunk creations.
I’m certainly ready to feature the characters in new illustrations. Maybe that will lead to new comics. One thing at a time.
I figured I wiould start with a new version of the original Misspent Youths logo.
As usual, it’s available on schtuff in my Redbubble store.
That’s it for me this week. Take care. Drink lots of water.
See you next week!
