Dig Them Horns

This page got posted primarily because of the guy with the horns. I like the way they turned out. As far as I can remember none of these characters have any histories.

Cauldron Sociology

I keep most of my story notes in my head. That’s really not the safest place. My brain feels the need to remember useless things (some embarrassing thing I did in third grade, the names of movie stars, what I had for lunch last Thursday) along with everything else.

Occasionally I feel the need to write down story details and ideas and we get pages like this.

Other Human

A few sketches from when I was planning on doing The Cauldron as a webcomic. The only specific character is a beaten up Malekin at the top of the page.

Sound FX

I like doing hand lettering for comics. Lettering the dialog for each scene isn’t that exciting, the fun is in the sound effects, in trying to represent a noise visually. Most comics these days are lettered on the computer. I hand lettered a short story recently and was reminded why. Computer lettering speeds up the process and usually the results are fine.

The sound effects here were done for an early version of Oz Squad. That artwork will show up eventually on an Oz Squad website. Eventually.

See You Later

In 2004 one of the major clients at the Day Job shut down most of the division we were supporting. My boss asked me to do an illustration for a sympathy/good-luck-in-your-next-job card that we could send to the departing employees. This was that illustration. I don’t remember if we actually sent out a card but, if we did, we certainly didn’t use this illustration.

Basket Case

The fellow in the lower left, all head and arms but lacking a torso, is based on Belial of the Basket Case series of films. At one time I was interested in adapting and expanding the story for a comic series. Of course, being interested in something and being committed to something are two different things.
